Whether it be through previous conquests or something else entirely (NetherRealm has never given a definitive answer) isn’t clear, but suffice it to say that Shao Kahn’s domain, much like the one in which he wants to conquer, is a melting pot of species, some native, others… well, not so much. The Mortal Kombat reboot's version of Goro is mostly accurate to the video games, but the Shokan prince is changed in a few major ways. Not a concept that’s remotely difficult to grasp, of course, but where lines start to get a little blurry is the fact that humans – or what appear to be members of Earth’s dominant race, at least – are present in abundance on Outworld. The reboot goes all out with its fatalities and the best part is that they are always unique and executed well.

The 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat definitely remembers its origins and fixes the one issue even fans of the 1995 movie had which was the lack of fatalities that were faithful to the game.
